Getting to Know You

I'm driving in my car, I turn on the radio and I hear the opening lines to Getting to Know You from The King and I.

It's a very ancient saying,
But a true and honest thought,
That if you become a teacher,
By your pupils you'll be taught.

How is it possible that I never realized that this song was about a teacher getting to know his/her students?

This is how I envision my first day of school in September - a spectacular musical number with adorable children singing and dancing in an easy, friendly manner.

And while you watch ask yourself, "can these kids be any cuter?"

And I will get to experience this for the first time this year! A new experience for me! I was told in my interview that I will learn more from the students than they will ever learn from me. Since I will be outnumbered 300 to 1, this must be true! Can't wait!

I can't wait to hear all about it. Best of luck and remember to enjoy yourself. xo

ah - the first day of school! It's my favorite day and this Wednesday is IT. I agree that your students teach you as much as you teach them if only you take the time to listen and develop a willingness to learn!

Have a great school year!

Yes, adorable children! I just realized The King and I was set in Siam, which is currently Thailand. They still have a king, whom they greatly revere. The queen's birthday was while we were visiting and was a cause for great celebration.

Good luck back at school. I'm sure your children will quickly realize how lucky they are!
