Teacher Appreciation Day

Celebrate Staples Teacher Appreciation Day.

Enter your state and city to find the date and time your event will start.

The "great perks" include...

A FREE thank you gift bag (while supplies last) with bonus coupons to use at the event.

A sneak peek at must-have new items for your classroom.

Time to catch up with colleagues.

Staples makes it sound pretty exciting.  The image their advertising inspires is one of a relaxed social gathering with smiling people sipping cider and laughing whilst extolling the virtues of glue sticks and post-it notes.

In reality, a harried employee slaps down a tote bag containing fewer items than the year before and you make your way through an overcrowded store thinking, "do I really need any of this stuff?".

But, it's all part of the back to school ritual and it is common knowledge that teachers like free stuff!

In my area Office Max has their Teacher Appreciation Event on the same day so my little MINI will be bursting at the seams.

And that's a good thing.

Ha! I love your realistic description of the day. Still, as you said...free stuff!

Steve - I'm glad you saw this post because I thought of you when I used the word "whilst". :)

I love the note from the student on the Featured "Ahhhhh". Love that he calls you by your first name.

Well, I hope you got lots of fun free stuff for your classroom. Can't believe the summer is over! My boys go back the 21st. Hope you have a great year, Gary and really enjoy the kids you work with this year!

Penniless Teacher - More free stuff?! It looks like there are some wonderful resources at your blog and it is a perfect link with this post. Thanks for the info.

Betsy - Thank you. I am looking forward to going back because I miss the interactions with the kids (but I don't miss feeling exhausted all the time). If you are like many of the parents I speak with you must be happy the boys are going back too. Summer's are exhausting with the kids home all the time.

Free stuff is always good. I love office supply stores almost as much as hardware stores. II hope you filled up the Mini!

Alas, Barbara it was all very disappointing. Staples gave a few items but it was obvious that teacher appreciation day was a ploy to get us in the store to spend more money (here use this coupon for $10 off when you spend $50). And Office Max simply gave an empty tote. But I don't want to be ungrateful and I appreciate their appreciation just the same.
